Casual GWr Astral Slide

This is one of Jenni's old favorites, and one of mine as well. It is great at controlling creature-based strategies but not so good against combos (unless the combo relies on a creature). In any case, here's the decklist:

Lands (24):
7 Plains
4 Forest
4 Secluded Steppe
4 Tranquil Thicket
3 Nantuko Monastery
2 Mountain

Creatures (10):
3 Eternal Witness
3 Krosan Tusker
2 Eternal Dragon
1 Indrik Stomphowler
1 Loxodon Heirarch

Other (26):
4 Astral Slide
4 Renewed Faith
3 Kirtar's Wrath
3 Fluctuator
3 Radiant's Judgment
2 Decree of Justice
2 Gaea's Blessing
2 Lightning Rift
1 Gilded Light
1 Life from the Loam
1 Sterling Grove

There are some obvious holes and replacements that probably should be made. For example, Radiant's Judgment is usually not needed because there is so much creature control already in the deck. Also, Kirtar's Wrath should be either Wrath of God or Akroma's Vengeance, but the card is a holdover from a version of the deck that used Portcullis to lock down the whole board. It was overkill, I know.

Possible Updates: This deck might benefit from Pale Recluse. It also needs better lands. I pulled all of my shocklands out for other decks, but with so much cycling it doesn't matter quite as much.

In any case, changes will come and critiques are welcomed!

Getting Back Into the Game

Magic: The Gathering card backImage via Wikipedia

Truth be told, I haven't played Magic: The Gathering in months. In fact, I don't have much of a clue what decks are being played in the new standard, much less any innovations that might have been made in extended. In fact, the last time I played it was because my wife bought me a booster box for my birthday (back in October) and we drafted during my birthday party. Because I'm so far behind, I doubt I'll be much good in a tournament anytime soon (mainly because I just don't have the money to get caught up). However, I'd love to play some casual games to get back in the groove, so I've been looking over the set I missed (Conflux full visual spoiler on wizards.com) and the set that will come out soon (Alara Reborn spoiler on MtGSalvation.com).

I am incredibly excited to see cards like Ethercaste Knight and Pale Recluse, which are simple but useful and (best of all) common. I'm looking forward to actually getting my hands on some new cards and playing a bit. Perhaps I can convince some friends to draft with me sometime soon...
